Happy Toilet in Beijing School

Zhangde Primary School is honoured to have the privilege to partner Yu Xiang Xiao Xue in our inaugural visit to Beijing in May 2007. I was thrilled to be part of the 28-member delegation of pupils and teachers to partner with Yu Xiang Xiao Xue, Beijing.

We were warmly received by our hosting school. The Principal, teachers and pupils were affectionate and made us feel really at home. We were treated like royalty. Our pupils attended lessons together with the Beijing pupils. It was really an eye-opener for all of us. We were overwhelmed with the caring and vibrant atmosphere of the school. I was particularly impressed with the forward-looking vision of the school leadership and the passion of the teaching staff. During my classroom visits, I saw confident and articulate pupils engaged enthusiastically in class discussion and other meaningful class activities. How I wish more of Zhangde pupils could have such a positive attitude!

As Zhangde is an ambassador for the Happy Toilet School Education Programme, we saw this a good opportunity to spread the vision of the Restroom Association ( Singapore) to Yu Xiang Xiao Xue.

To show our appreciation for their hospitality, we decided to decorate 2 of their toilets. Together with some of Beijing students, our pupils decorated one male and one female toilet to spread the message of Happy Toilet. Below are some pictures of this collaboration.

As China is progressing so rapidly, we sincerely hope that Yu Xiang Xiao Xue will also be an ambassador of the Happy Toilet School Education Programme. Our wish is that they will champion such a good cause with the enthusiasm we felt in their classrooms. With many good things happening in China now, who knows Yu Xiang Xiao Xue and Beijing will truly transform the future of our toilets.
